GL Coil

Galvalume Coils from Kunseng Material

Aluzinc (aluminum-zinc alloy coating) is an anti-corrosion treatment process in which a steel sheet is hot-dipped with an alloy coating consisting primarily of aluminum and zinc. Its core characteristic lies in the specific composition of this coating, which provides a dual anti-corrosion mechanism: a physical barrier (from the aluminum) combined with sacrificial protection (from the zinc).

Product overview

Galvalume steel coil (abbreviated as GL) is a steel product based on a cold-rolled steel coil, which has been coated with an aluminum-zinc alloy via a continuous hot-dip galvanizing process. The coating typically consists of approximately 55% aluminum, 43.4% zinc, and 1.6% silicon by weight. This specific composition allows the coating to provide both the physical barrier protection characteristic of aluminum and the sacrificial anodic protection characteristic of zinc, resulting in superior overall corrosion resistance compared to conventional galvanized steel products.

For our clients, Al-Zn coated steel coils serve as an ideal base material for manufacturing profiled roofing panels, hoarding/fencing panels, and decorative panels, offering a balance of durability and ease of processing.

Key Performance Advantages
  1. Exceptional corrosion resistance: Aluminum forms a dense oxide film on the coating surface, effectively blocking the penetration of corrosive agents. If the coating is scratched, the zinc acts as a sacrificial anode, corroding preferentially to protect the exposed steel substrate at the cut edge. Industry data indicates that a 55% Al-Zn alloy coating offers approximately 3 to 6 times the overall corrosion resistance of a standard galvanized coating of the same thickness.
  2. Excellent heat resistance: The Al-Zn coating remains stable at temperatures between approximately 300°C and 315°C. Furthermore, its thermal reflectivity is roughly double that of galvanized steel, making it well-suited for roofing and wall cladding applications that require thermal insulation.
  3. Good processability: The material is compatible with standard fabrication methods—such as shearing, bending, and roll forming—and is well-suited for continuous roll-forming processes used in the production of profiled metal sheets. It also provides an excellent surface for subsequent painting, making it an ideal substrate for pre-painted (color-coated) steel products.

Typical Applications (Based on Use Cases of Our Clients)
  1. Roofing/Profiled Panels: Galvalume (Aluzinc-coated) coils are roll-formed into profiled roofing panels. The silver-white, spangled surface can be used as-is or serve as a substrate for further color coating. These are ideal for industrial facilities, warehouses, construction site hoarding, and roofing for various structures.
  2. Construction Hoarding/Fencing: Leveraging its excellent corrosion resistance and formability, the material is processed into construction site hoarding or temporary partition panels. Its superior weather resistance ensures that such barriers remain rust-free for extended periods in outdoor environments.
  3. Decorative Purposes: Featuring a distinctive, smooth, silver-white spangled texture, the material is well-suited for decorative panels, ceilings, and partitions where a metallic aesthetic is desired. If a specific color is required, the surface can be color-coated to produce pre-painted Galvalume (PPGL) coils.
Quality and Supply
  • Original manufacturer’s warranty certificates and coating weight test reports are available.
  • We provide recommendations on the appropriate steel grade and coating weight based on your specific application (e.g., AZ100/AZ150 for construction hoarding/fencing; AZ150 for roofing panels, depending on the environment).
  • Services such as slitting and cut-to-length processing are also available.
